How do I contact the Humane Society to drop off an animal?

Please note: It is unlawful to leave an animal at the steps of our adoption center. As you know, the Humane Society of Forsyth County is a No Kill shelter and we want to help all dogs and cats in need.

It is imperative that you contact Laurie or Joyce at the shelter to seek guidance as you cannot just drop off animals: 770-889-1365. Thank you.

Why doesn't anyone ever answer the phone at the adoption center?

The staff at the adoption center not only take care of the animals, they also file paperwork for the lucky animals who are adopted, they run animals to the veterinary clinic when necessary, they show animals and greet those visiting the center too. Please do not feel rejected by getting the voice mail message, your call will be taken and returned if necessary. Thank you for your understanding and patience for the volunteers and staff at the center.

What to do if you have found a pet:

Contact your local animal shelter or vet office to have pet scanned for a microchip. This service is done free of charge.

If you have found a pet, you must make efforts to find the owners before attempting to adopt this pet out. To do this, report the found pet to the county animal control shelter at 770-888-2500, giving a detailed description, area where the animal was found, date found, sex, collar or no collar, tags, etc. Note that Animal Control will not come out and pick up the pet just because you are reporting it found; they only come if you make a request to their office at 770 781-2138.

If you are close to another County, report the animal there as well. A dog or cat can travel several miles everyday.

Call the Humane Society's lost and found at 770-889-1365 with a full description of the found animal.

Run a free found pet ad in the Forsyth Co News at 770-887-3126. Note: Be vague in your description; if owners come forward to claim their pet, they need to describe the animal to you. Example: Found lab mix, 8-4-06, South Forsyth area, call 770-555-5555 to describe.

If you decide to place flyers in the area you found the animal, again remember to be vague.

What to do if you have lost your pet:

Contact the county animal shelter giving a detailed description of your missing pet. Forsyth County's animal shelter is 770-888-2500. Visit the shelter every other day, to err is human, Go look for yourself-no one knows your pet better than you.

Contact the Forsyth Co Sheriff office to check and see if they picked your pet up: 770-781-2138.

If you are close to another County, report your missing pet there as well. A dog or cat can travel several miles everyday.

Call the Humane Society's lost and found at 770-889-1365 with a full detailed description of your lost pet.

Run a lost pet ad in the Forsyth Co News at 770-887-3126.

Place flyers in the area you lost you pet,  Also put flyers by stop signs, convenience stores, and in areas where children gather i.e.: bus stops, tennis courts, neighborhood pools, club houses etc. Mark them with "REWARD". Money talks!!

Talk with neighbors, show pictures of your lost pet, ask neighborhood kids to be on the look-out and remind them a reward is involved.

Deliver flyers to all vet hospitals, boarding kennels, and animal shelters in the county.

You can also contact the county road dept. They pick up animals that have been hit by cars, fatally injured on the county roads. They keep a log of animals they pick up. Some need to know if this tragedy is a possibility; others would rather not know. This step may be done at your individual discretion.

**If your pet is not microchipped, we recommend doing this as soon as your pet is located. Contact your local vet to make an appointment to do this. Microchips save lives daily at county shelters. Give your pet this little bit of added security.

I am interested in adopting an animal, now what?

The Humane Society of Forsyth County always has an animal available that may be just right for you and your family.

Step 1: Fill out one of our online pre-adoption forms. This will be sent to the Adoption Coordinator for review and you will be contacted.

Step 2: Visit the website or adoption center to see the available animals. It's always a good idea to visit the animal to ensure it is right for you.
